The great adventures of y/n, Tommy, Jack and Tubbo
Requested:yes/no
Pairing: Platonic jack/tommy/tubbo/reader
Summary: another day another adventure
Content warning: cursing / I didn't proof read
An: reader has bright unnatural hair I wrote a lot, I can't figure out how to add read more on mobile I'm sorry
The music you were currently listening to was interrupted by the discord group notifying you that you have a new message.
Tommy: Y/N HOW BUSY ARE YOU TUBBO HAS COME TO VISIT AND JACK IS HERE
y/n: I mean I've currently got hair dye on but itâs being washed off and dried in around 20 minutes, why?
y/n: WAIT TUBBO?!?!
tubbo: oh yeah I forgot to tell you
y/n: how did you forget you know what nevermind, Iâm glad youâre here :]
jack: we should be here in an hour so you have plenty of time to get ready
tubbo: what colour dye y/n
y/n: youâll see soon enough as apparently, youâre all showing up at my house
Tommy: I suggest you wear comfortable shoes
y/n: I am terrified
Tommy: you have nothing to fear... for now
â˘â˘â˘
luckily it had only taken you just over 40 minutes to get ready giving you roughly 20 minutes to prepare for the adventure ahead. or so you thought, as soon as you sat down ready to check your phone the sound of Tommy and tubbo laughing could be heard from your room, jack sent a message âhey we got here extremely early Iâm sorry thereâs no rush the others have been distracted by dreams music :)â
grabbing a backpack from next to your bed you had quickly chucked your phone and purse into the bag unsure as to what youâre going to need today.
â˘â˘â˘
as soon as you opened the door you were met with an ecstatic tubbo who instantly pulled you into a hug unable to contain their excitement of seeing their friend
âI HAVEN'T SEEN YOU IN AGES YOUVE CHANGED SO MUCH LOOK AT YOUR HAIRâ
âI look exactly the sameâ
âNow Iâm no genius y/n but last time we spoke you didnât have unnatural hairâ
you paused for a moment as tubbo had a point the last time you and tubbo were on face time your hair was classed as a natural colour however today as a fuck you to your school which didnât allow unnatural hair you decided to dye it your favourite colour.
âyou raise a fair point now if you donât mind releasing me from your grasp I have to lock the door so no one gets inâ
â˘â˘â˘
âTommy unlock the door let tubbo and y/n inâ
âY/N YOU'RE HERE- HOLY SHIT YOUR HAIR! JACK ARE YOU SEEING THISâ
âHello to you too Tommyâ
âwell if we werenât going to get noticed at the shopping centre earlier y/ns bright fucking hair will definitely cause people to notice usâ
âoh Iâm sorry I didnât expect to be going shopping with a bunch of Minecraft streamers todayâ
âdonât you stream Minecraft?â
âThis isnât about me jackâ
the trip to the shops was surprisingly relaxing y/n sat at the front listening to jack sing along to songs playing on the radio, however, it was clear the boys had something they werenât telling y/n which became evident through Tommy and tubbo bickering in the back of the car about who was going to tell them. it was a relatively short journey due to the fact you lived close to the city centre
â˘â˘â˘
âletâs go shopping boysâ Tommy practically yelled to everyone, tubbo held his phone in your direction then looked towards you, nodding at him you grabbed his phone and began recording
âI'm vloggingâ
Tommy walked over âYEAHHHHHâ
walking past cex you had to put up with Tommy making sex jokes until you made it to game, you stood holding back your laugh as you filmed Tommy and tubbo fighting about whoâs paying whilst jack went off to buy a Minecraft squishy and mug despite everyoneâs arguments against it. soon enough fans came over asking for photos with you all once the group of fans left jack took over recording for tubbo whilst you went off to quickly buy some games that you could play on stream.
â˘â˘â˘
âwant a wig bro? jack!â
the four of you walked into the shop, you couldnât help but stand in awe looking at all the bright colours already questioning what colour to dye your hair next the sound of Tommy and jack being amazed pulled you out of your thoughts
âGogy goggles, Iâm actually buying themâ
âi wanât a pairâ
âno, youâre getting a wig jackâ
âI donât want a wig I want Georgeâ
ây/n has bright hair and theyâre not complainingâ
âwhat do you have against people with colourful hair jack hmm?â
â˘â˘â˘
âI'm not happyâ
âyou look lovely jackâ
âweâre getting so many looksâ
tubbo stopped everyone to âfixâ jacks wig which resulted in everyone laughing once you had finally stopped laughing you noticed tubbo had walked off and you were convinced jack had randomly decided to record strangers until you saw tubbo going up and down escalators
âoh there he goes againâ
âpov youâre thinking about beesâ
âwhere to next boys?â
Tommy pointed towards the lift
âIs this a lift for usâ
Tommy noticed the safety sign and automatically made comments about it
âkeeping us all safe is what I would say if I wasnât carrying a knifeâ
âoh same Tommyâ
âlook you can see meâ
taking that as an invitation to join the vlog you stood behind tubbo and pointed at the sign again and looked at Tommy and jack
âkeeping us all safe is what I would say if we werenât about to do this-â
the three of you went to jump up and down
âNOâ
the four of you quietly left the lift however you were convinced that the public heard Tommy comment on having a knife and you threatening to jump as once the lift opened everyone was staring at you but it could also be due to the fact you had brightly coloured hair and somehow convinced jack to keep the wig on, you all spent a long time trying to convince Tommy to get a new outfit, eventually you went into another shop a certain keyboard caught your eye
âIâve found my home, ill stay here at the gamer bunkerâ
you decided now was the perfect time to sneak off to buy the keyboard that had caught your eye, once tubbo noticed it was too late you stood holding the bag with your purchase leaving you stood in the middle of the shop defending your purchase to him claiming that it was a business expense and not just because you thought it looked cool.
âyou told me you wanted to save your moneyâ
âit lights up tubbo and it fits the vibe of my roomâ
Tommy placed his arm on your head treating you as an armrest as you were shorter than him and he knew it annoyed you
âthey have a point tubbo it lights upâ
once the recording ended you made your way back to the car
âsay y/n you wouldnât mind if me Tommy and jack stayed the night as tomorrow we were thinking-â
âsure thingâ
âYESSSSSSâ
â˘â˘â˘
the next day you were woken up at 9 am by Tommy stood at the foot of your bed
âhi y/nâ
âWHAT THE FUCK- oh hi Tommy Jesus christ do you know how horrifying that was to wake up toâ
âSorry bout that but if I didnât wake you up now youâd only wake up in the afternoon and we need to go soon Iâll leave you to get readyâ
you noticed a note was next to a jumper on the floor âhi, thanks for letting us stay the night I really liked your hoodie so I decided to wear it today hereâs mine in exchange- Tubbo :Dâ
normally youâd be concerned that someone stole your hoodie as you live with your parents however today was an exception once you were all ready you set off jack pulled into a McDonald's drive-through so you could all get breakfast
ânice hoodie y/nâ
âThanks, someone took mine and decided to make a tradeâ
âyouâre welcomeâ
the journey was quiet again you sat next to tubbo in the back Tommy sat at the front screaming at jack and trying to distract him and people around you decided to took a picture with tubbo who now had his arm wrapped around you as it was rather cold in the car and posted it to Twitter â@ ranboosaysstuff wish you were here :Dâ less than a minute later you received 2 notifications âranboosaysstuff replied to your tweet: sameâ â ranboosaysstuff has tweeted: *the spongebob gif*â
â˘â˘â˘
soon enough you all arrived at mint golf to say you weâre excited would be an understatement
âcan I get the shortest club you haveâ
you stood hiding your face in the jumper tubbo left you whilst you laughed a few minutes later you received a call from ranboo the others said theyâd sort everything for you whilst you answered
âwhatâs up tall oneâ
âstay safe okayâ
âranboo itâs mini-golf Iâm not fighting criminalsâ
âyes but I know how clumsy you areâ
âfirst of all rude second of all fuck you third of all jealousy isnât a good look on youâ you managed to say through laughter
âjokes aside please come to the UK booâ
âoh sure Iâll go book a plane ticket nowâ *ranboo ended the call*
ranboo made jokes like that before however this time sounded a lot more serious and you had no idea why he called you so you made a mental note to call him again later. once with friends again you were met with Tommy telling the worker all about you all
âyeah weâre big on the influencingâ
âWhat on earth did I walk in onâ
âno time to explain letâs go golfâ
you were handed a club and a ball and were dragged away by jack
â˘â˘â˘
tubbo joked about getting a hole on one as soon as it was his go, you bet ÂŁ10 with jack he wouldn't
âhand over the money y/nâ
you looked at Tommy who was now recording you handing jack the money âso today we have learnt to not underestimate your friends and that gambling is bad. you lose your money to a tall bald guyâ
to put it politely you and Tommy found out that mini golf is not your calling in life
âill stick to streamingâ
âyouâre both losing by the wayâ
âyeah well- why and how does tubbo have soupâ
tubbo stood cradling the soup as though it was a child
âSome things I canât explain to youâ
you stood tilting your head to the side questioning where the hell he got soup from
âehâ
âsoups like a small child I take care of it as if it was my ownâ
you couldnât contain your laughter at this point the confused faces of your friends alongside tubbos happiness of soup sent you over the edge so you decided to just sit down before you fall as your knees were already weak from laughing too much
âwhere did you get the soup fromâ
âI manifested itâ
â˘â˘â˘
after a few solid minutes of arguing over soup you and Tommy dropping the phone you all continued with bowling.
âtubbo get out of the way of my dream ballâ
you stood recording jack cheering him on tubbo had different plans and kicked the ball away resulting in jack giving up and copying what you had been doing most of the rounds, after missing the hole 3 times each go, picking up the ball and placing it in the hole however again he missed
âyou canât be seriousâ
âgolf isnât for everyone big manâ
Tommy took the phone from you to record âpov youâre me golfingâ
â˘â˘â˘
âhow do we get across thereâ
âprobably the bridgeâ
Tommy pulled to rope moving the bridge across the gap
âWhy thank you, Tommy, wouldnât have been able to do it without youâ
you laughed
âyou're extremely welcome y/n it was extremely easy because Iâm a big muscly manâ
golf was finally going well till you hit the ball a bit too hard causing it to go over the fence tubbo was able to get the ball back
âIâve been watching a lot of doctor showsâ you stood amazed at how far you made the ball go
âsee the issue is its mini golf. if this was regular golf I'd have got a hole in one I'm telling youâ
â˘â˘â˘
âI'm never being in your vlog againâ
jack looked at you and tubbo who was now laughing at you pretending to worship the can of soup in the hole
âTommy please come backâ
the rest of the game was chaos, you kept missing the hole then claiming to rage quit golf tubbo and Tommy kept making jokes jack left his drink somewhere then had to go back and find it, no one had been paying attention to you which allowed you to take the score sheet and make it so you had won the game eventually he game was over you had declared yourself the champion of golf despite the fact everyone was better than you including Tommy
â˘â˘â˘
the journey back was chaos you called ranboo who claimed he only called you to plan a video/stream with you however it was clear that wasnât the reason tubbo whispered to you so no one could hear
âI think he wants to be here with us I think heâs jealousâ
you laughed and nodded
âof courseâ
eventually, you all made it back to yours, ranboo said goodbye to everyone then ended the call now it was time for you to say your goodbyes. since your love language was physical touch you hugged everyone. As you walked into your house Tommy yelled âY/N HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT PLANESâ

Fox Mulderâs Guide to Building a Pool: part 2
Read Part 1
A/N This is in answer to an anon prompt: Mulder builds a pool in the yard. It ran away from me so Iâll post it in two parts.
This is set post IWTB and assumes Season 10 didnât happen. Because it shouldnât have, am I right? Angsty to start with.
Winter
November rushed headlong into house and yard with blizzards and ice storms and squealing winds under the doors. The pool project remained as frozen as the ground but his brain was always planning. Winter was the end of things, yet, even as he scraped freezing condensation from the inside of the windows, he felt a kind of resurgence. Like his bare, unadorned spirit had rested enough to begin anew. It helped that he spoke to Scully often, random phone calls, text messages with links to articles sheâd found on cryptid sightings or arcane deaths. Her emoji use was spot on. Aliens and foxes and ghosts and a solitary blue heart.
Christmas Eve and she sent him a message about a sighting of a âgargantuan, hirsute humanoidâ in a Florida forest and after reading it with a sense of comforting familiarity and relieved distance, he googled the meaning of the blue heart. Trust, harmony, peace and loyalty. Reading into emojis had to rank right up there on the Fox Mulder Chart of Weirdness but the idea of it, that she had carefully researched this colour and chosen it as the one to close off her messages to him, took root in his own heart and he felt a burst of that same restless energy that had plagued him for months.
He walked to the back door, chancing a look out. A smirry rain fell, leaving the bare branches oily in the low light. Further around, the pool, sunk below the hard, cold earth was a gaping dark mouth, the concrete bearing the marks of months of bad weather. In one corner, debris from the yard had collected, twigs and small stones, plastic wrapping floating in the grimy pool of melted snow that covered the base.
The sound of her voice as she picked up the call pulled a smile to his lips. She sounded pleased to hear from him. Excited almost.
âHey.â It was an extended version of her usual greeting. A stretching of the word into something more. His heart skipped. âI know you donât celebrate, but Happy Christmas, Mulder.â
It would have been typical for him to make some flippant remark about stockings or mistletoe but instead, he raked up the trash in the pool as he wished her seasonâs greetings and listened to her stories of wrapping gifts for the kids at work and the terribly formal staff dinner where the turkey was overcooked and the hasselbacks were rubbery and she left early so she could pull on her pyjamas and robe and watch Itâs a Wonderful Life and then, after a breathy pause, added, that it wasnât the same on her own.
âWhatâs that noise?â she asked.
He could have said it was the sound of his heart breaking free of his ribcage but he shook his head at himself and took a deep breath. âWould you believe me if I said I was cleaning the pool?â She laughed and he burst right through her green light. âDid you want to come over, Scully?â
She would very much love to, she said, and he held the phone to his chest while he scraped out the detritus against the side wall one-handed. The first flake of snow landed and he looked up to the silver heavens and whispered a thank-you.
Guilt crept in when he saw a parcel in her hand. âI didnât get you anything, Scully.â He took her coat, the bag of groceries and the gift and she said sheâd forgive him and he grinned at her as he rattled the box until she tutted and snatched it back from him.
âIâll put it under the tree,â she said but the living room was empty of seasonal decor and she looked down at the gift and her feet and he wondered if he could pull out all the boxes in the attic to retrieve the decorations but she shook her head and laughed through her nose. âDonât worry about it.â She could still read him like a book.
The intensity of the storm took them by surprise, heaping snow against the window sills and the door and Scullyâs car until everything was silent-white and glistening. He poured brandy over ice and she sank into the couch next to him wrapped in a blanket and wearing a resigned smile.
âItâs fine,â she said. âIâm not due at momâs until New Year. I was going to be working but that changed, so I have no plans.â She squeezed his knee and there was a glint in her eye that had him almost believing that sheâd engineered the weather, just like that Holman guy from years before, but Dana Scully MD was no lovelorn meteorologist. She was the sender of blue heart emojis, the bringer of turkey steaks and farmerâs market vegetables, she was the best present ever, the three wise men and more.
She was also a little tipsy, he thought, eyeing her reddened cheeks and the way she shucked off her boots to tuck her ankles under her ass. He hadnât seen her so loose for years. Heâd spent too long ignoring her that by the time she left she was coiled like wire rope and just as cool to touch.
âIf this storm keeps up maybe we can skate on your pool,â she said and giggled, pressing her fingers under her nose.
âYou want to rush me to ER with multiple fractures on Christmas morning, Scully?â He swallowed the liquor.
Her face straightened and she cleared her throat. âIt will be strange, wonât it, being here tomorrow? Waking up on Christmas morning together. Itâs not something weâve done forâŚâ
âThree years,â he said and let that settle between them before adding, âbut Iâm looking forward to it.â
âBecause it feels like weâve moved pastâŚall that?â
All that. All that rage and disappointment. All that bitterness and rancour. All that unsaid. Too much said. âBecause it feels fated,â he said. And she pulled a face. âPreordained, inexorable.â
âDestined,â she said, leaning forward. âPortentous?â
He chuckled. âThat has a negative connotation, like foreshadowed. Itâs more ominous than auspicious.â
âIâm going to have to take back that Thesaurus and buy you something else, Mulder.â She nodded to the present on the table.
âI used to be poor,â he said and she quirked her eyebrow. âThen my partner bought me a thesaurus and now Iâm impecunious.â
Her snort was half-laugh, half-surprise. âWeâre notâŚâ
âI know.â
The next morning dawned clear and Mulder was already awake. Had hardly slept. Like a child at Christmas, he thought wryly, impatient for his gift. Scully wasnât for unwrapping though. At this stage, he was lucky she was here to decorate his living room. The brightest star. An angel.
She was dressed in his old anorak heâd used years before to clear the yard when they first moved in. It surrounded her like a canoe, pointed hood above her head and falling to almost her ankles. She was dragging something behind her, leaving a thick trail through the snow. Mulder opened the door and she huffed through, revealing her treasure â a small pine tree, dripping melting snow in grey piles on the floor.
He found a box of decorations behind a wall of old books, dusted them off and climbed back down the ladder. Sheâd made cocoa and found marshmallows from that Mary Poppins bag of hers. She added a dash of brandy with a hair of the dog wink and they made the tree pretty.
Flipping pancakes, he watched her as she sat in the chair near the window, wrapped now in one of his sweaters, pink-stockinged feet crossed. âIf you squint through these blinds, Mulder, and use your imagination, of which you received a wild and overly large share, it looks like thereâs a snow monster in the pool.â
âAre you still drunk, Scully?â He bent beside her, close enough to see the dark skin on the mole above her lip.
âI am not, look! There. See it? Itâs got shifty eyes and a long nose.â
He rubbed at his own features and she jabbed his hand away.
âItâs there. I swear. Come on, Iâll show you.â She shot up and dragged him outside where the cold shrunk his skin around his bones. The sky threatened to unload again and she shivered despite her layers. He slunk an arm around her shoulders and she swayed into him. âThere. Look. See?â Her finger pointed but he couldnât have seen a thing beyond the fact that she was there, right next to him in the dead of winter, gesticulating to a lump of frozen water.
âAt least when Frosty the Snowmonster dies, the pool will be quarter full,â he said, holding open the door for her. She dipped under his arm and it felt like old times.
Spring
Blossom hugged the ends of branches, pom-poms of pink dipping on the breeze. The sun was watery-warm and birdsong amplified the hope of the season. Heâd tiled the pool himself, enjoying he exact nature of the work. The water delivery contractor was late but the from his vantage point on the front deck, Mulder couldnât care less. Just for an hour or so, he could afford to do nothing. He told himself he deserved it. He let his eyes slip shut.
âCanât a girl get a fanfare any more?â Scully was standing at the foot of the steps, casual in blue jeans and a fitted mint-green tee, her hair was pulled back in a scruffy ponytail that usually signified she was about to get messy.
He made trumpet noises and she bowed when she reached the deck. From her tote she took out a bag of pastries. He liked this version of Scully. He liked her very much. This soft, coquettish variety gave him hope like the spring and made him feel lighter.
âIâll make coffee,â he said and ushered her through with a theatrical wave.
The truck arrived two hours late but that was two hours passed with Scully who spent her time asking questions about the pump and the pool fence requirements and whether he was going to plant a garden and how much she loved the mosaic tile design on the bottom and whether heâd considered a shade sail. She wrinkled her nose and her freckles danced. He had a vision of her sunburnt and cranky.
âIâll order one before the heat hits,â he said, solemnly.
âDonât do it just for me,â she said, over the din of the hose being unravelled from the truck.
As though he would do anything for anyone else. Heâd spent much of the time since the Father Joe case doing things only for himself. He couldnât see it then, but his focus had narrowed beyond the scope of voiceless victims, beyond the purview of his domestic responsibilities and from his refreshed perspective, he could see now how Scully had been cut out of his orbit.
âDid you imagine this when we first moved in here?â
âYou designing and constructing a pool, sundeck and safety fence? Mulder, when we first moved here you couldnât have built a house of cards. Remember when the screen door fell off the hinges and you tried to fix it but ended up breaking the drill. You were so angry, a wounded animal fighting off any help. I thoughtâŚâ she covered her eyes with her hand to watch the water running over the bottom of the pool, steadily rising, filling the void. âI should have left sooner. Maybe you would have rediscovered thisâŚthis spirit of yours earlier.â
âYou think your leaving prompted me to do all this?â
âDidnât it?â
âIt took more than three years of you notâŚâ
She sucked in a breath and it dawned on him that she was still hurting too. Would it ever stop? Or was the pain destined to be a constant companion to remind them of their failings? Was building a pool really just a diversion from the agony of Scully being gone? Was her position at the hospital just her version of a building project? She was building herself a better life and he was building a pool.
âIâm sorry,â she said, reaching for his hand and squeezing gently. âFor not trying harder.â
The drone of the truckâs motor stuttered to a halt and he looked down at her. She was gazing at the water as it slapped at the sides, settling. âYou have nothing to apologise for, Scully. I closed off, shut down, kept you out and then got mad at you when you made a new life.â
âWe were both pretty closed off, Mulder. Talking for hours but never saying enough. Remember how we used to spend days on the road and never have to say a thing. We could go for miles in silence. It didnât bother us then, so when did that change?â
âI think the truth of it is that we were both just talking at each other, trying to get our voices heard, but we didnât care to listen for fear of actually hearing.â
She raised those brows of hers and smiled. âThatâs very deep and heartfelt.â
The truck reversed and he looked down at the water and the moving outline of the blue love heart heâd tiled at the bottom of the pool. âJust like my pool.â
The first time she came over for a swim, she presented him with a new beach towel. It had a fox face on it and she was so proud of herself. She let him splash her and she bombed him and he didnât want her to leave but he watched her drive away and sat on the verandah for hours after the sun went down.
She phoned to say she was coming over again and that gave him an idea. After all, he owed her two gifts now. So he went online and shopped.
Taking the parcel, she dipped her head in gratitude. âThis better not be a beach towel with Big Blue on it, Mulder, or I swear to GodâŚâ She ripped the package open scattering paper everywhere. She held it up. It was a one-piece swimsuit the colour of those Caribbean island beaches, azure, the colour of her eyes. She pulled a face, whispering a wow and telling him he shouldnât have because people might talk.
âLet them talk,â he called out, as she slipped into the house to change. âWhat else could they say about us that we havenât heard already, Mrs Spooky.â
When she returned, she was wearing the bathing suit and a knee-length cream sarong. She pulled a wide-brimmed hat out of her bag and went to put it on but he stopped her.
âJust one more thing,â he said, finding the smaller parcel. âThis is a very late birthday or really early Christmas present. Take your pick.â
âAnother gift? You already got me this suit and Iâm wondering if I should really spend the afternoon with a man who buys lingerie for a single womanâŚâ
âItâs lingerie?â His voice was high-pitched because he was genuinely curious and a little sorry about her use of the word single which seemed unnecessary but she grinned wickedly and he breathed out in relief. âDamn. If Iâd have known that I would have bought that red lace numberâŚâ
âDonât push your luck, Mulder.â
The small gift was wrapped in silver frosted paper decorated with a gold bow. She opened this one with much more care and when she lifted the lid and saw the silver chain with the blue topaz heart pendant, her eyes filled with tears. âItâs beautiful, Mulder. You shouldnât have. Itâs too much.â
âTrust, harmony, peace and loyalty. Blue hearts. Thatâs what they mean.â
âUh-huh.â She turned and he clipped the necklace under the hair. âYouâre reading a lot into an emoji.â Was he? Maybe. Did he care? Not much. She turned to face him, stood on tiptoe and kissed him, softly, gently, with love. âBut youâve always looked beyond the obvious. And thatâs why I love you.â
Love. Not loved. He took her hand and walked her to the edge. âReady?â
She didnât answer but tugged at his wrist and pulled him forward so they both plunged into the deep blue, going down and down.

945.
When did you wake up today? >> I woke up at like 4a at first, and then finally fell back asleep sometime after 6a, and woke up for good at a little after 8a. IDK why this happens, but itâs really annoying when it does.
Are you a breakfast person? >> I donât know what a âbreakfast personâ is. I do eat a meal in the morning...?
How often do you exercise? What type of exercises? >> I donât exercise. Itâs difficult for me to find something engaging and fun enough for me to stick with it. When the weather cools off a bit I will probably take up morning walks again, but right now Iâve reached my limit with summer conditions and canât be motivated to willingly drench myself in sweat.
Any favorite TV shows? >> Plenty. Here are three: Person of Interest, The Dragon Prince, Hannibal.
Do you pay attention to the news? >> I read news articles sometimes, when the subject matter is of interest to me or I want to get the full story behind something. Also, I get daily emails from The Flip Side, so thatâs a bit of news every morning.
Do you ever donate a dollar to fast food charities? >> Not usually. I also am rarely at fast-food restaurants, so.
What type of books do you like to read? >> I like a wide variety of books -- genre matters less to me than whether the content is written in an engaging manner and whether I care about either the characters or the subject matter presented.
Have you ever enjoyed a reading assignment for school? >> ---
Did you get to decorate your own bedroom? What's it like? >> As a child? No. Now? Yes, because Iâm an adult and I pay rent here so I can do whatever I want with my own room. Itâs not really decorated in a specific manner, though, like it doesnât have a âthemeâ.
What size bed do you sleep on? >> Twin, because thatâs what fits in my room. Fortunately, I am a relatively small person.
Do you wake up easily to alarms? >> I would if I used them.
Do you stay up unnaturally late at night or do you get to bed early? >> I donât think I go to bed particularly early or late. Ten PM seems a pretty neutral bedtime.
What are you usually doing if you're up late at night? >> If Iâm up late at night, itâs most likely because I couldnât get to sleep no matter what. Itâs definitely not on purpose.
Do you keep anything on like a fan or the TV while you sleep? >> I have the fan on in summer because otherwise the heat would kill me. But I donât like the noise, I prefer silence when Iâm in bed.
Do you procrastinate with deadlines? >> I donât usually have deadlines.
Do you put a lot of effort into school? >> ---
What food could you absolutely live off of? >> I donât think I could live off of any food (barring survival situations, of course). I require an array of nutrients just as much as anyone else.
What do you get when you go to the movies? >> An alcoholic beverage, sometimes. Otherwise I donât usually buy concessions, theyâre too expensive. Iâve definitely sneaked many a snack or beverage into a theater and Iâll do it again.
Where do you like to sit at the movie theater? >> Back center.
If you're just lounging around the house, what are you wearing? >> PJ pants or shorts and an undershirt or t-shirt.
Do you like wearing heels? >> An inch or two is fine. Iâd prefer not to wear anything higher than that.
Would you prefer a night in or a night out? >> A night in usually suits me, but depending on the kind of night out, I wouldnât say no to that either. Definitely been getting nostalgic for dinner-and-movie outings lately.
Do you enjoy being alone, or does it make you feel lonely? >> I do enjoy being alone. Itâs nice to just veg out in the apartment doing whatever I want, and I donât feel like Iâm being scrutinised every time I move.
Obsessed with any songs at the moment? >> Not any that I can think of.
Do you enjoy showers, or do you take them cause you need to? What about baths? >> Showers are a bit triggering for me for a tangle of reasons, I donât enjoy them at all. I never take baths, those are a hard limit for me.
Shower robe or towels? >> I just get dressed immediately after drying off and moisturising.
Do you have routines for waking up and going to bed? >> I clean my face and take my Pill before going to bed. I usually read for an hour after waking up, before getting up for bio stuff.
Do you remember your dreams often? >> Not often.
Do the dreams you remember make sense? >> I usually only remember ones that have some kind of connection to waking life. The more esoteric ones are difficult for my brain to hang onto, I think. They come through less frequently.
How is summer going so far? >> Iâve had my fill of summer and now I am looking forward to fall. Thatâs the thing about summer -- itâs short enough that by the time Iâm tired of it, itâs almost over anyway. By the time Iâm tired of winter, the worst months havenât even hit yet.
Do you spend a lot of time tanning? >> I donât spend any time tanning.
What would you say occupies your time most? >> The Internet, I guess.
Do you keep your room clean, or are you not phased by mess? >> I try to keep my room clean, although the size and how everything is set up makes it look a little more cluttered than it actually is, which drives me batty.
Do you get hassled to keep a clean room? >> Who would hassle me...? Iâm grown, Iâm responsible for my own damn room for better or worse.
Do you do your own laundry? >> Sparrow does the laundry.
Do you think graffiti is art or vandalism? >> Itâs both. Art from the perspective of me, a passerby who likes pretty colours and funky lettering. Vandalism from the perspective of a building owner or law enforcement official.
How do you like your marshmallows roasted? >> Until theyâre crispy? Is there any other way, lol...
How do you get rid of hiccups? >> I donât do anything, mine go away pretty quickly.
How about brain freezes? >> I donât do anything for that, either, itâs over in a few seconds.
Do you have any healthy addictions? >> Thatâs... thatâs an oxymoron??? What do you think âaddictionâ means?
Are you old enough to vote yet? >> Yes.
Is voting important to you, or are you uninterested by politics? >> I am uninterested in politics and yet I still participate in the voting system. I didnât used to, but Iâve come to understand the importance of participating and so I do my best.
Are you alright at world geography? >> Iâm pretty abysmal at world geography. I know where some countries and geographical features are, and I can figure out the general area of where other countries or geographical features would be, sometimes... but mostly I just never put much mental energy into that sort of thing and Iâm often wrong.
How about navigating your city? >> I can navigate this city pretty well. Iâm good with cities.
What part of history interests you most? >> What part of history doesnât interest me, at least marginally?
Do you keep your cell phone on you all the time? >> Not necessarily on me, but itâs usually somewhere nearby. ... *looks around* ...Well, right now, itâs all the way across the room, but hey.
Do you answer it when it rings or do you screen your own calls? >> I donât answer my phone at all. Every call I get is spam or a misdial / someone thinking this number belongs to someone else entirely.
Are you big on the texting? >> I donât text much because thereâs no one to text except Sparrow, who I see every day in person anyway.
Do you like chewing gum or eating mints? >> I like the cognitive effects of gum-chewing. But Orbit changed the formula of my favourite gum so I had to give it up.
Do you use dental floss much? >> I donât floss.
If you're biking do you wear a helmet? >> I hate the way helmets feel on my head but I understand their importance so I just avoid biking at all, basically.
What is your favorite outdoor activity? >> Iâm not sure. Hiking, maybe? I do miss hiking.
Do/did you enjoy living with your parents? >> I did not enjoy it.
Do you have any favorite clothes? >> If I still have an article of clothing, one can assume itâs a favourite of mine. Otherwise Iâd just... get rid of it. I donât like keeping things I donât enjoy.
How about a favorite pair of shoes? >> I only have two pairs of shoes and I like them both for different reasons / purposes.
How many different types of ID do you have? >> Well, I have a state ID, and a Social Security card somewhere (... I should really figure out where that is, I always seem to misplace those), and a birth certificate. I think those are the major forms in this country (I donât have a passport, which would be another major form).
Do you always remember your license when you're driving? >> ---
Do you pay much attention to speed limits while driving? >> ---
What do you listen to when you're in the car? >> Sparrowâs iPod, usually. But she got a new dongle for the car and itâs Bluetooth, so now I can play my Spotify sometimes too. I have a playlist specifically for the car thatâs my Liked Songs with all the metal and hard rock removed (which is, like, three-quarters of my likes, lmao).
What do you spend most of your money on? >> Rent.
Do you take advice when it's given to you? >> I donât usually receive advice.
Are you optimistic or pessimistic under the shield of "realistic"? >> I feel like thatâs not the whole picture. Some people are plainly pessimistic, some people are pessimistic and call themselves ârealisticâ, and some people are realistic. Whatever. I think my viewpoint depends on what kind of day Iâm having, not some innate preference.
Do you avoid arguments or do you go out of your way to express your views? >> I avoid arguments but not to the point where I never express myself. Sometimes my trauma-inspired aversion to perceived conflict can get in my way, but I try not to let it win every time.
Are you looking forward to the future? >> I donât usually think about the future. Iâm busy enough with the present.

(abandoned) all i want for christmas is woohoo
kim seokjin / kim namjoon genre: uni au, fluff, crack rating: general words: 4.9k warnings: clownery, i knew nothing about uni, character dynamics based off a fic none of u have read a/n: incomplete prequel to the yoonmin fanfic i wrote three thousand years ago. i will never finish this so hereâs what i started and left behind for the dogs to have at
The stranger makes a noise of voiced agreement. âMood.â
September 8th.
One thing they never tell you before going to Uni, is that itâs fucking mental on Move In Day.
Obviously, he had some idea that the student digs would be fairly busy with students moving in, but he never expected to be waiting in a thick line of tired and excited first years for around fifteen minutes, only to then wait another twenty just for the student- who, by the way, was way too busy picking at her purple nail varnish to give two damns about Namjoonâs clearly very important moving in schedule- to find his key on the board barely 50 centimetres away from where she was sitting.
So, yeah- when his sister comes to Uni after him, heâs definitely going to warn her about the madness that is Move In Day, because clearly nobody else had cared if Namjoon was stuck waiting like a doormat for one student who thinks sheâs something to hand him a key. I mean, how hard can it be? He doesnât get it.
âSorry about the wait,â another male student, who noticed the lack of enthusiasm from second year student apparently named Jisoo, says as he moves from behind the desk to give Namjoon a silver key on a chain, with two other keys present. âHere are your keys- oneâs for the front door of your flat, second is for the main building in-case youâre late after hours and the third is for your pigeon box.â He pauses: âno help from your parents?â
Namjoon shrugs politely, âJust me. My parents are back in Ilsang, couldnât make it.â
âBummer,â the student replies. Along with the keys, he shoves a brown paper bag into Namjoonâs hands with a toothy smile. âYour complimentary moving in gifts, from the students who moved out! Thanks for picking Blossom Island as your student accomodation!â
Although Namjoon wants to tell him that Blossom Island was the only cheap option out of three absurdly priced accomodations for first years, he doesnât; instead, he smiles, lips closed and dimples on display, nodding his head and turning all within the same second. The student moves away after, so he doesnât feel bad about ending the conversation so abruptly.
Blossom Island is located smack bang outside of campus, across a small stream that Namjoon thought would be filled with blossom, but instead is littered with algae and tinfoil. Itâs large, tall like a regular apartment complex, with a courtyard out the front with a bouncy castle that Namjoon can already see some people jumping on with what he assumes is their new roommates.
Namjoon leaves the lobby- should he call it a lobby? It was more of a downstairs kitchen and living room, with two small sofas and a mounted flat-screen, a pool table pushed weirdly in the middle of the colourful boxed room and a door near the back wandering into the community study area, another door for what he guesses is for laundry. Hauling his suitcase and big, cardboard box in his arms across the courtyard, he follows the number on the key- number 8, floor 6, Kyoto Building and barely makes it five steps without almost dropping the box entirely, all thanks to some jerk wearing Thrasher and a beanie.
âThatâs what you get for not tying your shoelaces.â
Mid-crouch, Namjoon looks over his shoulder and spots Min Yoongi stepping out of the building, followed by a rather proud looking set of parents, preening at the fact that their son is going into Nursing. Due to that, he bites back a curse word he figures would be impolite for the elders, and manages a smile in the sun.
âWhat? He clearly pushed into me,â Namjoon reasons, standing upright and saying a hasty hello to Yoongiâs parents, who, in all honesty, have never really liked him much. He laughs breathily, waiting for a few seconds before asking, âwhere are you?â
Yoongi checks his key. âNumber 13, Floor 0, Juko Building. What kind of name is Juko, anyway?â
âBeats me,â Namjoon scoffs. âI think Jukoâs close to Kyoto. Iâll come visit when youâre all settled and moved in, yeah?â
Yoongi nods, already beginning to walk away. âYeah, Iâll get your mug out ready.â
Thatâs the thing with Yoongi, Namjoon thinks as he walks away; heâs always been about the little things in life. In the many, many years that Namjoon has known Yoongi, heâs never really changed- Yoongi has always been compassionate and cutely caring, buying two mugs instead of one and making pasta for two when he knew Namjoon was due to visit on days his parents were working late. And he feels bad, because Yoongi is a giving guy, not a receiving one.
He watches as Yoongi leaves with his parents, and he feels weirdly sad. Itâs none of his business, too, as he watches the three Minâs enter the Juko Building, painted a pastel pink with mint compliments, swirling patterns dancing as the leaves on the trees move in the whisper of wind.
Namjoon now has the urge to paint.
In Number 8, Floor 6, Kyoto Building, Kim Seokjin finally sets down the last potted plant on the sparse looking shelf above his desk, and he steps back with his hands on his hips to admire the minimal effort. Although it definitely took some struggle, what with his Dad accidentally dropping his bag with his Nintendo inside and his Mother judging his absurd amount of pink bath-towels, Seokjin has a feeling in his stomach- the feeling where you know that everything is going perfectly.
Thereâs a smell in the air; blossom from the large tree outside his window, propped open on the hatch to allow a breeze air out the room. Since his roomie hasnât arrived yet, the least he can do is get rid of the stuffy smell, something strangely similar to pool chlorine. He inhales it deeply, a smile tugging at his lips. Seoul weather amazes him- even though Gwacheon is a blink away, Seokjin is already starting to feel like a new person.
Maybe itâs just University excitement. Maybe itâs University nerves. But, maybe itâs also because he really needs a wee and canât think properly.
He waits nicely for his parents to finish up straightening every single crease in his bedsheets before saying goodbye. Although he might tease to their faces that he wonât miss them, and they wonât miss him, Seokjin knows from the minute they open the door to head back out to the corridor that itâs going to take a while to adjust to life without the nagging, but endearing, guidance of his family.
Because Seokjin has always sort of been the baby boy of the Kimâs from Gwacheon- his older brother inherited a type of broodiness that Seokjin is thankful he hasnât got yet, and so Seokjinâs always been the favourite. The favourite crawler, the favourite footballer, the favourite baker and painter- in honesty, Seokjung never wanted any of that. Seokjinâs proud of who he is- heâs so fucking proud of his family. So he sort of takes pride in being the baby boy of the Kim family. He wears it like armour, glistening armour that represents him in front of a whole army of potential threats and friends.
Jinyoung, an old friend, used to say it was embarrassing- as if Jinyoung doesnât have a comfortable enough life with parents who would murder for him, but Seokjin doesnât care. Why should he be ashamed of being loved? Most families arenât as close as the Kimâs, so he takes extra care in making sure his family know that he loves them. Thatâs the sort of guy he is- giving, occasionally receiving, but giving, giving his whole heart and soul to everybody else in order to make others happy.
Seokjin pinches the bridge of his nose as the door closes with a sickening click, the noise muting around the faint buzz of traffic across campus and the baby birds in the nest a few floors down on a branch, fluttering in the wind like wings. Heâs so lost in the way the small twigs are woven together, like the way a spider builds a web, or an ant a colony, that he doesnât realise three minutes have passed.
Now he really needs a wee.
When Namjoon opens the door to room 8, heâs surprised.
Not shocked, but surprised. Because thereâs a difference between shock and surprise- shock is entering a room and finding a serial killer, but surprise is walking into a room and finding a party. The difference is in the level of reaction, and Namjoon hadnât walked in and been completely thrown off by a wall of cute posters and the obvious collection of DS games and a cool looking computer. If anything, heâs intrigued. Surprised. Pleasantly surprised, perhaps.
To the right, Namjoon hears the toilet flush and he knows that he has a couple seconds to look around the room and plonk his bags and box on the plain bed before his roommate emerges from the bathroom. As he sets them down, he casts a gaze towards the right side of the room where his roomie has claimed a bed, a desk and a small looking wardrobe near the door. On the wall next to his bed, a collection of posters have been washi taped to the boring blank canvas- although, as an artist, Namjoon considers anything blank and white to be inviting and anything but boring, because a canvas holds endless opportunities- and his bed covers are a washed out blue, a colour that now, actually, as heâs looking at it, is becoming more chiffon coloured.
Itâs evident his roommate likes video games- half the posters on the wall are related to games he knows that they must like; Animal Crossing, a small Stardew Valley postcard and a commissioned drawing of Jinx from LoL, taped next to a large artwork of Mario Kart and more postcard art of games Namjoon thinks heâs heard of but isnât sure- The Last of Us, Tekken, Zelda. He pretends not to notice the small Minecraft postcard in the corner of the mural but weirdly enough, he finds it endearing knowing that someone at University still plays Minecraft.Â
Most of all, Namjoon notices the strange obsession with The Sims, as seen through multiple artworks and the fantastic collection of Sims3 Expansion packs sitting on the shelf above his bed, next to pop figures and a photo frame of a group of friends.
He wonders if his roommate will let him use the expansion packs when heâs bored.
âOh, hey.â
Clearly having not heard the bathroom door open, Namjoon spins on the spot to look back at the bathroom, where his roommate stands with his hand animatedly raised in a wave, a smile lifting his cheekbones. They look pale, almost watery, but Namjoon doesnât say anything. He knows why.
âHey. Namjoon,â he says, leaning forward to shake his hand. For a moment, his roommate stares at the hand, as if wondering what to do with it. âWhat?â
His roomie shakes his head, moving to shake his hand once, up and down, before letting it drop. âNothing. Itâs just, well, how many people give handshakes nowadays?â
Namjoon thinks it over in his head. âWell, a lot of people. Useful in business, and stuff. A manager might want to shake your hand at a job interview.â
As he says the words, Namjoon can tell by the passing look on his roommates face that he wasnât expected to give an answer. He stops talking after that, looking back to his bed with a feeling similar to embarrassment, while his roommate moves towards the window and clears his throat awkwardly.
âSeokjin.â He finally introduces himself. Seokjin- it has a ring to it. Namjoon says it over in his head, growing familiar with it. Now that heâs mentioned it, Namjoon looks back over his shoulder and realises that he looks like a Seokjin. The name suits him. âWhatâre you studying here?â
âArt and Design,â Namjoon replies with a brief smile over his shoulder. Seokjin isnât looking, anyway. âNothing too crazy.â He looks at the wall of posters- âAre you studying graphics?â
âYeah. Iâm studying Digital Art,â Seokjin replies, and itâs clear in the way his whole body moves as he says it that heâs passionate about his subject. He laughs shortly, âIsnât it funny how weâre both doing art and we got pushed together? Do you think thatâs intentional?â
Namjoon shrugs, taking out his clothes first from one of his suitcases. âMaybe. Iâm glad youâre Digital Art and not Performing Arts. One, this room is not big enough to dance and sing and two, I donât want to be woken up by a classical alarm clock. You know?â
Seokjin laughs and it suffices as a reply.
As Namjoon sifts around his bag and pulls out the remainder of his clothes, Seokjin turns around and watches for a swift three seconds, and then moves back towards his desk and absent-mindedly moves around his keyboard, straightening it up.
âDo you need any help?â he asks, and as Namjoon turns to catch his eye, he notices he means it genuinely.
âUh, Iâm alright,â Namjoon replies, and even though Seokjin can clearly see the amount of work he has left to do to his half of the bedroom, he doesnât pry and decidedly drops it. He shrugs.
âAlright then. Iâm gonna head out,â Seokjin says. He gestures with his head to the hallway. âOut on campus, theyâre doing that thing. What do they call it- Wildflower? I think I just wanna go meet some people. I can wait for you, and we can go together, if you want?â
Namjoon does want. He really wants to. But he takes several glances back at his boxes and frowns deeply. And anyways, heâll have plenty of time to hang out with Seokjin later, wonât he?
âIâll pass,â Namjoon rejects him softly, a smile on his lips as if to say, I do want to come but Iâm way too busy. Seokjinâs lips twitch into a pursed mouth and he nods. âIâve just got a lot to do. We could hang out later, if you want?â
âSure,â Seokjin replies, already inching towards the door. âYeah, alright. If you need help, just text me. Iâve got my number on the pinboard above my desk- just incase, you know?â
Namjoon glances over; surely enough, on a corkboard pinned to the wall above his desk and beneath the shelf, he can see the sleek black letters printed with âemergency numberâ written next to it in messy handwriting. He smiles, mostly because heâs never seen someone have their own phone number hung up in their room before, and nods without looking in Seokjinâs direction. âOkay, thanks, Seokjin-ssi.â
Seokjin makes a sound similar to a laugh, air through his nose, a small intake of high pitched breath afterwards. Out the corner of his eye, Namjoon can see him hovering his hand over the handle and to be polite, he finally looks over. Something tells him he was waiting for that.
âSeokjin should be fine,â Seokjin replies with a smile.
By the time Namjoon finishes sorting out his things (and by sorting out, he means that heâs hung up his clothes and kicked the cardboard box towards his desk out of the way), Seokjinâs still not back from Wildflower, and quite frankly, heâs bored.
As if by a magnetic pull, he finds himself leaving Kyoto building to trudge in the mid-move-in-manic, across the small courtyard where the bouncy-castle has deflated thanks to someone jumping on it wearing shoes, and towards Juko building, a big clump of pastel next to the white blossom tree that Namjoon is jealous of. Yoongiâs room, even back at his home in Daegu- where Namjoon had lived throughout his entire high-school life before his parents moved back to Ilsang during his final year-, was somewhere Namjoon had felt completely and utterly accepted. At home.
He always found it funny how Yoongi said the same thing for him- his bedroom back home was small, smaller than the dorm room he has now. It was an average room, with small bold letters spelling out his name on the front of his door, and his walls were painted a navy blue with dark wood floors that went through the entire house, with thrown around covers and three pillows to sleep with and furniture which didnât match the colours. But Yoongiâs room was different. Yoongiâs room was Yoongi.
Slanted ceilings and an off-white coloured paint-job on the walls, with grey curtains and white sheets and an electric piano pushed up against the window-wall, overlooking a small line of houses out the front of the street Yoongi lived on, a tree that turned orange in October. On his walls, Yoongi liked to keep it minimal, minus the posters of his favourite artists and a little area above his desk for pictures of him and Namjoon, his first family pet, a ticket to his first family vacation when he was thirteen, dried flowers from a tiny bundle he was given on a Valentineâs Day. His first Valentineâs gift. A memory. A wall of memories, stuck with shimmery tape and dried blue-tac on the white, unremovable, stuck like glue. It was everything Namjoon wanted in a room. It was everything Namjoon needed in a place to feel completely and utterly safe.
Namjoon wasnât surprised that Yoongi had stuck with the bland style of dorm room, compared to the bed next to him which his roommate- a kid studying Music with an incredible obsession with BoA and Michael Jackson- who, even though he was an amazing artist, Namjoon always felt weirded out by.
He stands by the doorframe as Yoongi shuffles to straighten his blanket at the end of his bed, simply looking at the decor, taking it all in with a deep breath. His roommate stared at Namjoon waiting in the doorway and pulled his lips to a frown, excusing himself, â...heading to Wildflower, bye,â being the only words he ever said to Namjoon.
âNamjoon, I hate it.â
âYouâve been here for two hours,â Namjoon frowns, sitting on his roommateâs bed. He wonât mind (only he does, and he notices the imprint of Namjoonâs arse left behind which he thought would disappear after five minutes.) âItâs not that bad, surely?â
Yoongi shakes his head adamantly. âI wanna go home, Joon. I donât wanna do nursing.â
âYou might really like it, though,â Namjoon sighs. âYou never know!â
âI donât want to study nursing,â Yoongi repeats himself through pouted lips that Namjoon can hear. âI wanted to do art, or music like my stupid roommate. I donât know why Iâm here, Namjoon, I really donât know why Iâm doing this to myself.â
Namjoon knows itâs hard for Yoongi. His family expect too much- like most parents, actually, Yoongi knows they want the best for him. But, the best isnât forcing him into a nursing degree.
Toying with the frays on Yoongiâs roommateâs blanket, Namjoon says, âhey, hey, calm down. Itâs fine- if you donât like the first three classes, you canât be expected to stay. Youâve got to do what you want to do.â
Yoongi bites his lip before replying. âI have nowhere to go if I drop out. Iâll do a year, maybe. Maybe half a year. Oh, I donât fucking know. I donât wanna give up and let down my family, you know?â
Namjoon does know. His parents had wanted him to be a lawyer. His sister, Kyungmin, wanted Namjoon to do something with his music. But, like the delinquent he is, Namjoon always knew he had a passion for art. Drawing made him happiest- letting his thoughts draw something on a blank canvas was the closest thing to real magic. Singing your feelings is one pleasure, but capturing the colours and movements onto paper was something Namjoon found absolutely rewarding. Thankfully, his parents knew there was no point in forcing him into doing something he wouldnât enjoy. He was lucky.
âYeah, I know.â
Yoongi knows Namjoon knows, and he also knows Namjoon doesnât know what to say. He pulls at the bridge of his nose and lets out a low grunt. âAnyway. Howâs your roomie? A weirdo?â
Namjoon shakes his head. âNo, not really. I mean, heâs really into video games but itâs not overbearing. Kinda endearing. Heâs fun. Seokjin.â
âOh, cool,â Yoongi replies, nodding slowly. âYou get all the good stuff, you know that?â
âWhatâs mine is yours,â Namjoon says with a frown.
At that, Yoongi smiles. âYeah. I know, Joon.â
Wildflower lives up to the frantic Google search that Seokjin did moments before heading down to check it out. Even before arriving, he could smell the variety of foods on rickety stalls, and hear the experimental strum of a live band getting ready to play near the main building to the University campus.
Ducking his head underneath the waving arm of another female first-year, Seokjin took a stroll around the small section of Wildflower, politely looking at the bits and bobs he could purchase, like complimentary University flags and tapestries for walls, or a coffee where the change went to a local suicide-prevention charity. He bought one, a tea that was too milky for his taste, and continued walking.
He hadnât bought much change with him. After the rather awkward first meeting with Namjoon, Seokjin had let it slip his mind. Regardless, he wasnât willing to let the lack of coins and a credit card spoil his First Day mood. Inhaling the smell of a nearby Jjinmandu stand, he let his stomach steer him towards it, collecting the spare change in his pocket- luckily for him, he had around 4,000 in his jacket pocket which more than comfortably paid for a portion of Mandu.
âHere you go,â the server hands Seokjin his small paper dish of Jjinmandu with a smile, a smile that reminded Seokjin of his third-year teacher back when he was a child. Warm, inviting, kind, a motherâs smile. She smiled toothily when Seokjin handed her more than he was being charged, saying it was a tip, first day luck, or something. She bowed her head meekly.
Without wanting to hold up the slightly growing line, Seokjin moves out of the way and towards a small cluster of metal tables and chairs, shivering as the umbrellas moved in the wind, passing the sauces with a thoughtful pause. He has time to kill; he puts his dish on the small counter and puts a tiny blob of sauce in the corner, and he dips his finger in to taste it. He recoils visibly, finding the taste too bitter.
From somewhere behind him, Seokjin hears what sounds like laughter and he turns, surprised, and finds another student with a bright orange lanyard hung around his neck. Heâs a total stranger, with hair pushed into a black beanie and a denim jacket covering a brown shirt, with some black jeans with the knees cut out. On his feet, worn out Converse. Seokjin does a double take.
âYou know thatâs spicy BBQ, right?â
Weirdly enough, Seokjin finds that he sounds exactly like what he thought he would. He stares at his glasses, first, and the way they slide down his nose, slightly oily because of the heat.
âDonât you usually have teriyaki with Mandu?â he continues, wandering over to glance at the bottles of sauce, before pushing a slightly stained bottle towards Seokjin with a smile. âThere. Honestly, scrape off the BBQ, this will taste so much better.â
Seokjin feels dumb. âI only usually have the tomato chilli. â
âYeah, and BBQ?â
âNo,â he replies, and then he laughs quietly, âno, never BBQ. Letâs call that...first day experimenting.â
The stranger nods along, shoving a mouthful of his own Mandu. Seokjin wants to point out that he has sauce on the corner of his mouth, but it feels rude. He barely knows him.
Glancing at the lanyard around his neck, Seokjin finishes his mouthful- âAre you staff?â
âWhat?â the stranger asks, caught off guard. Then, he looks down at the lanyard and smiles, politely, not in mockery, and shakes his head, disturbing feathery hairs that were once tucked up into the beanie. âOh, no. No, Iâm a first year.â He chortles at Seokjinâs stunned expression. âWhat, do I look really old?â
âNo,â Seokjin replies. âI was just...surprised. I donât know- todayâs been weird for me. Iâm all over the place.â
The stranger makes a noise of voiced agreement. âMood.â
They stand in silence for a couple moments after that, eating, staring off at the little stream that ran around the perimeter of the small square, listening to the sound of the live band kicking off their setlist with a slow song appropriate for the weather.
The stranger swallows his Mandu, pointing at Seokjin with his spork without really realising, âoh, Iâm Hoseok by the way.â
Hoseok. A name to the face.
âSeokjin,â he replies. Now heâs finished his Jjinmandu. âDigital Art.â
Hoseok makes a noise. âWoah, no way.â Gesturing to himself, âArt and Music.â
Seokjin wants to laugh. âThatâs so weird. My roomie also does art. Itâs like Iâve been thrown into a pool full of art students.â
âYeah. Well, we are in the Arts Square. Wouldnât it be weird if I was doing Chinese studies and I hung around in the Arts Square on my first day?â
âTrue,â Seokjin nods.
Talking to Hoseok is easy. Itâs so fucking easy- itâs as if Hoseok has been a friend for years. They walk together, along the small path that barely fits them both, weaving around the stream. Seokjin learns that Hoseok is from Gwangju, and has a sister who designs clothing in the city. Hoseok, in return, learns that Seokjin barely escaped being a lawyer and comes from a family inheriting endless zeros. It doesnât bother him. It usually bothers people.
âItâs cool that you got to do what you wanted to,â Hoseok says as they walk further along campus. Now, theyâve reach the on-campus convenience store, the artificial lighting making Hoseok squint, even though daylight still pushed on. âMost kids donât when theyâre in your kind of position.â
Hoseok quickly looks over, âI donât mean that in a bad way, I only-â
âNo,â Seokjin agrees, nodding and thrusting his hands into his pockets. He dips his head upwards, inhaling the smell of the sunshine, before looking at Hoseok with a friendly smile. âNo, youâre right. Most kids donât. Iâm lucky.â
Hoseokâs grateful Seokjin didnât misunderstand. âHm, maybe weâll be in each-otherâs classes.â
He says it with a hopeful tone, lightly nudging Seokjinâs shoulder with a small smile, that caused dimples to spread across his lower cheeks.
âI hope so,â Seokjin replies, but the sound of the stream covers it. Hoseok keeps walking, not making it known if he heard. He probably hadnât.
Namjoon rolls over the next morning, not quite remembering how he got home and when, and squints at the Sepia screen of his phone. It reads 6:45am, too fucking early to be awake on a Saturday.
did you get home ok yoongi
dont think i care about you or anything yoongi
Namjoon snorts quietly, wincing when he thinks heâs woken up Seokjin across the room. But, when he looks over towards Seokjinâs side of the dorm, he notices that heâs not even in bed. His sheets are tucked in tightly, and his jacket is absent on the coat hangers on the back of the door.
Holy shit, Seokjin gets up early.
yeah. hows minjoon, the name robber joonie
seriously fuck off heâs playing fred videos yoongi
itâs fucking 7am yoongi
Namjoon scoffs, mostly to himself- because who else is he going to scoff too?-, and rolls over flatly to press his feet onto the flattened out carpet of his room. The sun barely peeks through the shitty curtains, and he yawns loudly, feeling the euphoria of a morning stretch. Namjoon sighs with pleasure at the feeling of his body stretching out, letting his arms drop and grabbing his phone to reply to Yoongi, who Namjoonâs surprised is awake, even when Fred is involved.
i thought fred had died, fr joonie
bitch me too but here we have his channel, still screeching away about rubber sharks in his tiny swimming pool yoongi
im really not joking joon. i wanna quit so bad iâve been here less than 24 hours and iâm already fantasising about drinking the bathroom bleach yoongi
Heâs about to reply when the door to their dormitory room swings open, and the hostility of the swing almost makes him drop his phone on the floor. Namjoon scrambles to catch it, staring up with surprise at the sight of Seokjin carrying two mugs of what appears to be tea. Namjoon smells the cranberry as Seokjin comes closer with a sheepish, yet almost smug, smile. Bare in mind, Namjoon hates cranberry tea; at the smell he smiles and fakes joy.
âSaw your post-it saying you had to set an alarm for seven,â Seokjin said casually. âFigured youâd be up by the time I came back with this...hope you like cranberry.â

Today was a quite nice day. I slept a few hours less than eight - something that keeps happening for last 3-4 days.
I finally received my course scholarship today. I was getting a bit stressed out about not having it.
Of course I donât have the money any more :D . Funny thing about getting cash like this is that I have multiple wishlists, some of them, like 10s to 100s of items long.
Yesterday, I was trying out to figure out if I could browse online courses on ebook readers because browsing the text-heavy ones on smartphone or computer screen is awful. I was considering spending everything on an ebook reader but it turned out browsing internet on low-mid end ones, even Kindle 8 is absolutely awful. Also I realised my ebook reader has much more pleasant browsing due to the screen not flashing horribly when turning pages which happens even on the Kindle. I guess thatâs why it has power consumption closer to a smartphone than to a typical ebook reader.
So, I decided against it.
So I ordered a proper HTML and CSS manual to have something about it to read in bed and in coffee shops. Itâs HTML and CSS: Design and Build Websites. Itâs somewhat dated but itâs a beast of a book with all pages in colour.
I was thinking about finally buying myself a big expensive book, like for example I Am Providence : The Life and Times of H. P. Lovecraft and donate the rest, but then I realised I already ordered the web design textbook, so I resigned from buying the big book.
Today when I finally got the money I started out ordering from abroad. I ordered the first volume of The Flowers of Evil - Complete manga. Iâm looking forward to finally holding that mazing manga in my hands.
I also ordered Nicoletto Giganti's the School of the Sword : A New Translation by Aaron Taylor Miedema. Mainly because I recently realised what a brutal-looking beast of a sword a rapier is. Itâs a one handed sword and itâs long. For average person itâs about 120cm long, for me it would be about 140cm long.
Shit, if Iâll ever get out of this awful situation, Iâll buy myself a huge custom rapier.
I ordered two next volumes of AnaĂŻs Nin diaries. This time in a local online bookstore which has an up to 35% promotion on many books. The last time I ordered a journal through post, it arrived beaten up and with damaged front cover. I was too exhausted to return it or something. Overall, the previous shopping was disappointing, especially when I saw the low quality reproductions in the DĂźrer album.
It was a quite peaceful and comfortable day and I hated the perspective of going out to the hostile world outside. But then the evil neighbours started playing radio and drilling or cutting something and I finally decided to go out and seek shelter in a nice coffee house.
So, after ordering all that stuff, I went to get the HTML and CSS: Design and Build Websites book from the store I ordered it at. It was a bit beaten up, but I couldnât bother to return it because itâs just a textbook and I got it in a 35% promotion anyway. Itâs annoying that new books, even ordered from magazine are almost never in mint condition.
After getting it I visited a local manga store and got Pietia, which I recently learned was published here. Then I went to a coffee house.
I went to coffee house and have started reading the new book. Managed to read first few pages. Then Iâve watched some videos on my smartphone and have read a few pages of Pietia. When watching the videos I drawn a few drawings including the upper one. I drank a small flat white.
Then I called home and learned the renovation works are still going on so I went to another coffee house, this time cheap one in a mall. I continued to read the new textbook, this time it was going a bit better.
When I returned home, I donated the rest of money (about 1/4 of the starting amount) as I was planning. Felt good.
Iâve read some more of the textbook. Iâm 45 pages in now, finished the first chapter. I really missed having paper book on the subject all that time.
Iâm also doing freeCodeCamp lately. Itâs easy to progress because itâs gamified but it still needs stuff like books and doing webpages outside of it to actually learn anything, which they forget to mention.
Iâm exhausted. Itâs, like, almost 4am here. I need to go to sleep. It was a very busy day.
Itâs not easy to be a R.O.U.S., Indigo!

April Activities
April is one of the best months. Itâs still cool enough to have my winter blanket on the bed, but warm enough to maybe go out without a coat. Nothing is better. Sorry about the weather-talk, but itâd be insane of me not to mention itâs so beautiful out. Onto this monthâs happenings! So many things took place!
Firstly, the big news. Weâve moved! Only a few streets away, but into a waaaaay better apartment. Itâs almost a joke how much better it is. We were coming from a basement apartment, so pretty much anything above ground floor would impress us, but there are a hundred little details about our new place that Iâm in love with. So crazy thankful and happy with it all. Weâre still getting settled into the place, but Iâm planning on doing a post about all the little things Iâm doing to it with the decor and storage and boring things (but oh so fun to me) like that, so keep an eye out for that post coming out most likely before the end of the month. So excited to get this place homey and lovely.
I went to a Rapters game at the Barclays Center and whoa, it was a dumb amount of fun. Nathan met someone in the audience at one of his shows who works at Barclays and got him a few VIP tickets (fifth row from court side!) and it was pretty incredible. There was tons of free food (shriiiiimp!) and soft serve ice cream and beef tenderloin and fancy water and free snacks, it was the best. I could list all the food specifics here, but I donât want to seem like a dick who thinks sheâs better than you (but might be?).
I went to the Glossier flagship store again to try this highlighter aaaaand it was pretty basic, so that was disappointing. I also tried their Boy Brow again and I think that yes, it is a good product. Although is it worth $16? Not sure. Iâm still considering Benefitâs mini version for $12, so thatâs likely the next eyebrow product Iâll buy/try.
I treated myself and bought the full size version of Laneigeâs Lip Sleeping Mask (which is HUGE and should last me eight hundred years) as well as a new Fenty sponge because my old sponge was beginning to look nasty.
I tried the new basil foaming hand soap from Trader Joeâs because thatâs an amazing idea for a scent. But the quality of the bottle itself is so cheap, it makes an awful squeaking sound when you use it. Donât buy.
Loving these two songs lately.
Yes, I hate receiving foundation samples. You know this. That being said, I tried the one from Yves Saint Laurent and even though it was the wrong colour for me, it felt crazy nice and moisturizing on my skin. I can see why people go so crazy for this product. I still wonât buy it because I donât really love wearing foundation, but maybe one day when I believe that foundation makes a difference?
I tried the Smile Foot Mask from The Face Shop and HOLY SHIT. Itâs good enough that you can ignore the creepy baby feet on the packaging. And I mean, my feet are pretty well taken care of already, but this was some next-level shit. Definitely keeping this one in the rotation.
I know that I told you I was going to start taking collagen, but with the move I slacked a little so I donât want to comment on it yet. Iâm gonna start it again and take it on a daily basis starting tomorrow so I will definitely have thoughts on it this time next month.
Love this meme.
I went to Niagara Falls with my family and it was the best. Just a ton of fun.

I started watching Schittâs Creek and itâs pretty good so far. I only saw about five episodes, but thatâs enough to have an opinion, yeah? I want to watch more, but those Frasier reruns arenât gonna watch themselves.
Watched The Bye Bye Man and wooooooof, it was rough.
I also watched Crazy Rich Asians and it was great! Iâd wanted to see it for awhile and it was just a fun movie. A friend of mine accidentally called it Crazy Sexy Asians and it made me laugh, but thatâs a way better title. I love, love, love Elvisâ version of this song, so whenever it gets covered, Iâll love it to pieces. Also, the wedding scene? With the water? Jesus! So nice. Even watching it now makes me teary, itâs so beautiful.
Ate at The Cactus Club with the lovely Marla for her birthday (!) and it was goooood. The short rib pappardelle? Heavenly.
One of my favourite recipes that I havenât been able to make for awhile since I used to live in a place WITH NO OVEN is this baked pickles one. Just made it last night and still holds up. So tasty.
Thereâs an upcoming lantern festival in Mississauga that I just heard about on August 10th that seems pretty lovely.
Have you ever tried chocolate mint coffee before? We just got some beans from a place near us and made some this morning and I was jacked for about three hours. Really tasty, I just donât understand how a person could drink coffee every day.
I was in need of a fancy dress so I went to Burlington in Union Square and was shocked at how nice/inexpensive everything was. I got a Calvin Klein dress (that I later returned because Iâm CLASSY) for $40! Such a great place. Easier to browse than Century 21, for SURE.
The reason I needed that fancy dress? I WENT TO THE OPENING NIGHT OF THE BEETLEJUICE MUSICAL! And it was incredible. I have a friend whoâs in the ensemble and graciously invited me and it was everything. Iâve never been to an opening night before and the air was electric. Such a fun time. I met Richard Kind at the after party and gushed about Clifford for approx. two minutes before he ran away.
Really enjoyed the new Lizzo album, the best songs are definitely Like A Girl and Soulmate.
I tried the relatively new chicken pieces from Shake Shack and thereâs literally NOTHING DANNY MEYER CAN DO WRONG. Theyâre delicious, obviously.
I had no idea that The Strand will buy your old books. Amazing.
There are no Home Sense stores in the States (as far as I know), which sucks. But I came across Home Goods on the Upper West Side (thank you for the suggestion Harmeet!) and even though itâs really not as good, itâs actually okay. I appreciate the attempt of them trying to be a Home Sense.
I went to the new Rec Room in Square One and it was pretty good, I thought. Obviously you need to walk in with a full wallet, but I mean⌠itâs something to do? Itâs pretty much Playdium with better food.
And that was April! Some things to look out for in next monthâs roundup: highlights from Tiannaâs visit to NYC, Iâm going to a screening of Booksmart, and I swear Iâll do that apartment post. Honestly thatâs the only thing Iâm really, really looking forward to - I love this new place so much. Thanks for reading!

Dickens Meets Nikon (50 1.2 Ais / 50 1.4 Ais): A Tale of Two Fifties
It was the best of primes, it was the worst of primes, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of (low) Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair,
I had everything before me, I had nothing before me, I was going to photographic heaven, I was going direct the other way and my bank balance was soon to follow. In short, that period in photography was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest internet experts insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of photographic comparison only.
There were a king of an ultra-fast lens with a large jaw in thy local camera dealers and a queen lens with a plain face, on the throne of my camera shelf. In both cases, they were clearer than crystal and to the Gods of photography, the local bank manager and preservers of State to film and developing chemicals, such things were settled for ever.
It was the year of Our Lord two thousand and fifteen. Spiritual and optical revelations were conceded throughout England and the rest of the world at that favoured period such as this. The Nikkor 50mm 1.2 Ais was lauded as the fastest  ever to be made by said folk. For the poorer subjects of the kingdom whose unfortunate station in life had yet to surpass that of humble caretaker to the one point four, a terrible storm of doubt and confusion rained down for twenty seven long, hard years.
Ok, enough of that prose, down to brass tacks. I never really feel comfortable in knowing that thereâs a faster lens than the one I already have from the same manufacturer. This is the very making of the terrible âfaster=betterâ stupidity disease that affects many photographers without good reason.  This often defies logic as faster lenses can have not insignificant trade-offs across the full aperture range and are invariably much more dangerous to oneâs financial health. Regular readers might recall that I have already touched upon the perils of illogical fast glass lust in another recent blog post. In the case of my Nikon lens collection over the years, I had eventually whittled it down from more than twenty-five F-Mount lenses in the past fifteen or so years to just three and all of them manual focus (Ais) older designs. In this mount last year, I only owned the 28mm f2, the 50mm f1.4 and the venerable 105mm 2.5. I had been lucky enough to get all three copies from late production runs in the early 2000âs with full boxes and papers in mint condition at good prices. It just took a little patience.  The first and the last usually receive high praise across the board and are generally recognized as belonging to what is perhaps best referred to as the âfive-star legacy glassâ fold. I know some prefer the 2.8 in 28mm but Iâve had both and find that on black and white film at least, thereâs just something ridiculously good about the f2. Itâs a real star and packs some serious potential as a street and walkabout lens, thatâs the one I kept. From the first time I saw portraits from the 105, I knew that I would never, ever sell this lens. It has to be one of the best deals in photography.  Itâs worth owning a Nikon mount camera just to shoot this lens. I used to be madly in love with my creamtastic 85mm 1.4, it was part lens/part dairy product and all dream machine but for real world use, I actually prefer the 105. Itâs as good as it gets optically, small and compact, easy to bring along as a second lens and has a built in hood. Itâs also way cheaper. I wanted to write this without using the words âAfghan Girlâ but⌠oh well, I just did.
So what of the middle sibling in my fold? The nifty-fifty-Nikon one plus three pennies. This seems to be a lens which is always rated as just being somehow âquite goodâ to middling but never really seems to garner any more praise than that. I guess it doesnât stack up against the more modern glass and that has further hurt its slightly lackluster rep in contemporaneous times. I think many people who have owned one feel like itâs perfectly serviceable yet never really anything special. Nice to have but not enough warm, fuzzy feeling is included with one in your stable. This is the first stage of the terrible disease, that slight sense that you might be somehow missing out on something. The blurring of the line between want and need typically starts somewhere around here, many of us have been there. Enter the 1.2, itâs got quite a cult following in certain circles and the extra bit of speed and unusual size and shape can lead you to think that you simply must trade up.  The higher price tag only seems to confirm your growing sense that it must somehow deserve its gravitas in the world of high priced goods, sometimes the price tag is part of the product itself.
After many a year of doing this dance on and off every few months in my head, I finally caved in and picked a used one up from a local dealer. Where I live, they are nearly three times the price of the 1.4 if boxed and in mint condition. Depending on where you live and what dealer you talk to, you might still be able to buy one brand new in a box. I did something that I donât normally do at this point, I didnât trade in or sell of the old model at once, but kept it to one side. This is unusual for me as I normally feel that I have to move something out when I acquire a new arrival. At first, I was quite enthralled with the new charmer, it has the usual incredible Nikkor manual quality and feel, thereâs a reassuring heft to it. I honestly think I like the way these lenses are built perhaps more than any other, certainly as much as the brass Leica stuff of the mid-twentieth century.
Itâs a seven element, six group older spherical design.  It has nine diaphragm blades which can assist it well in terms of pleasant out of focus background areas. Wide open and in lower light, its charms continued although the depth of field at this extreme is ultra thin and requires very deft deployment. Perhaps this is exactly what one would expect. Iâve seen some wonderfully artistic stuff done at this aperture with the 1.2 Ais all around the web by people who are better at handling and exploiting the DOF than I am. A lot of them seem to own this lens specifically for such an aim. Also, when wide open the effects exhibit something of what is referred to as a âglowâ by many, not unlike some of the older Leica lenses of the sixties and seventies when used at maximum aperture. I think from a technical standpoint, itâs more a result of spherical aberrations and a little coma but subjectively speaking, it can appear most pleasant. Thatâs something that is either loved or hated, youâll have to decide if thatâs something you are okay with. Stopped down a bit to around f2 I found it more useable and just about as sharp as I can imagine any lens in the world ever really being, Iâm talking brand new surgeonâs scalpel kind of sharp. Very nice indeed, yes itâs surgical but not in an overly modern way.  However, for a lot of what I shoot, and in the very bright country in which I shoot it, I am often stopped way down anyway. Much as I hate to admit it, I donât really need an ultra low-light weapon all that often. I liked how it does colour but I donât shoot that much of it in all honesty, and call me a philistine but on black and white film it certainly didnât look any better than the 1.4 to my eyes.  Additionally, when stopped down to f8 or f11 sort of ranges, I think I again prefer the 1.4. The 1.2 also felt a little heavier and less balanced on my smaller bodies (FM3A and FE2), not a massive weight or anything but compared to the 1.4 it was a more awkward package overall to carry and deploy. This was no great deal breaker per se but I think it warrants mentioning and was something that I hadnât really expected.
Then I compared negs and prints to a lot of the stuff I had shot last year on the same cameras and film but using the 1.4. Although it is often chastised for being soft wide open, I actually quite like the way that softness looks. It is a seven element, six-group lens also of an old design.  Its diaphragm is two blades less at seven in total, I like the later model ones for the newer coatings but this is entirely subjective opinion. I also like the way that when used on Tri-x, sunlight and backlit outlines around the edges of people take on a very nice older 60âs kind of look. Not unlike the older Leica glass that I shoot with. I think itâs important when reading around the web to take peopleâs input onboard but also to actually look at what your work looks like with the lens and make comparisons based on that for your own personal circumstance. The internet tells me that the 1.4 is a fairly good lens but I really think itâs a great lens and I like the way that a lot of its technical âshortcomingsâ look on my film. After doing a lot of side by side work between the two lenses over the following month, I eventually decided to return the 1.2 to my dealer who was happy to take it back for a very small fee (check out my âUltimate Photographerâs Guide to Bangkok by clicking on the banner at the top of the page for a suggestive list of friendly places to buy and sell camera gear in Thailand). I think it was  just a little bit too fussy and somehow overly âspecialistâ for my tastes and application. I think a bigger part of the problem is that with a brand like Nikon, even the expensive glass is only typically a fraction of what you would pay for Leica optics and as a keen M shooter, it seems almost deceptively reasonable in comparison. This is not always a good thing though as it makes it too easy to act upon said lens lust. In comparison, for my M, I would never really dream of casually chopping in my âCron for a faster version if I were perfectly happy with it just âto see what itâs likeâ. In Leicaland that would mean the suffix of âLux and suffering moâ bucks. And if I had a âLux right now I would certainly never seriously entertain the idea of chopping it in for a huge and second mortgage facilitating Nocti either!
My conclusion: Happiness in photography, as in life, might not be found in having what you want rather in simply wanting what you already have. This applies to lenses superbly and really needs writing down on a post-it note to be stuck on to either my computer monitor or my credit card, or perhaps both.
What in the Dickens was I ever thinking? The 50mm 1.4 Ais, It is a far, far better lens that I shoot than I have ever said, the far, far better rest are better left unsaid. Â
